Optical Materials

  • Nanocomposite Materials

    Prof. Robert Boyd

Prof. Boyd is interested in the development of nonlinear optical materials, especially nanocomposite materials with enhanced response as a consequence of local field effects.

  • Plasmonic Materials

    Prof. Lukas Novotny

The group is investigating plasmonic materials for light localization and guiding. Furthermore, optical properties of carbon nanotubes and semi-conductor quantum dots are also being investigated.

  • Semiconductor Epitaxial Structures

    Prof. Gary Wicks

Molecular beam epitaxy is used to construct crystal structures, e.g. quantum wells and qunatum dots. These types of structures are engineered for specific optical properties such as particular emission wavelengths or enhanced absorptions efficiencies.
