OPT 428 -- OPTICAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS
The course is designed to give the student a basic understanding
of the optical communication systems while making him
aware of the recent technological advances. The following
topics are covered: components of an optical communication
system, propagation characteristics of optical fibers,
lightwave sources such as light-emitting diodes and
semiconductor lasers, optical receivers, noise analysis
and bit error rate, coherent communication systems,
multichannel communication systems, soliton-based communication
systems.
