P. Scott CarneyIntroducing Director P. Scott Carney

Dr. P. Scott Carney assumed the mantle as Director of The Institute of Optics on July 1, 2017. He eagerly anticipates the opportunity to personally welcome members of the Industrial Associates to campus in October. In addition to his energy and enthusiasm, Scott brings a strong educational background, insights and best practices from being an entrepreneur, and the approachability of being a faculty member who has spent the last decade working with students and colleagues. A UR alumni who studied optical physics and earned his PhD in Physics as an advisee of the legendary Dr. Emil Wolf, Scott has a strong sense of coming home to Rochester. He is truly excited to participate with The Institute and members of IA in making direct impacts on the future.
