2012 - The year in review

December 31, 2012

What kind of year was 2012 for the Institute of Optics?

When the Optical Society met in Rochester this past October, Emil Wolf, our esteemed faculty member and internationally recognized pioneer in the fields of coherence and polarization properties of optical fields, was honored for his 90th birthday with a special symposium. It seemed only appropriate that at the same conference, graduate students from our Institute won three of the seven best paper awards named in Wolf’s honor. Another of our students received a prestigious scholarship.

2012 was that kind of year for the Institute of Optics.

At almost every turn, there were reminders of this institute’s long-standing tradition of excellence, and solid indications that the tradition continues.
