Rochester Conferences on Coherence and Quantum Optics

An event whose long history originated in The Institute of Optics is the Rochester Conferences on Coherence and Quantum Optics, which has been held every six years since its inception in 1960, and is coming to an end on June 20, but was very well received by participants.

The first conference, organized by then Optics director Robert Hopkins, and his new faculty hire, Emil Wolf, took place a mere two weeks before the invention of the laser was announced. The CQO conferences bring together leading researchers from around the world, including Nobel laureate Serge Haroche from France. The Optical Society's Quantum Information and Measurement meeting was held simultaneously with the CQO and it's already been decided that this will be continued in future years.

The Democrat&Chronicle covered the conference with a nice article. Click here to read it.
