Faculty News
At its latest faculty meeting, the director of the department Dr. Xi-Cheng Zhang had many reasons to acknowledge some of the outstanding achievements by his fellow Optics faculty members. Here are some of the highlights:
- David Williams is the recipient of the prestigious Antonio Champalimaud Vision Award and was featured in an article in the D&C. Read more here.
- Robert Boyd, who holds a special position sharing his time between Rochester and Ottawa, recently dedicated his Photonics Center with a $55M building and $20M startup (estimate) He is pioneering a new way to work between universities and countries, and as such will continue to propel the Institute of Optics to an international research and education level.
- Govind Agrawal was selected receive the 2013 William H. Riker University Award for Graduate Teaching for a wonderful record of mentoring and the lasting positive impact of your advisement on his students and post-docs. He is only the second professor of optics to ever receive this award (Emil Wolf in 2000)
- Chunlei Guo is a new APS Fellow
