community.
LOCKHEED
MARTIN
Lockheed Martin is seeking
B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. level candidates (US citizens only)
for a number of positions in its LM Advanced Technology
Center, based in Palo Alto, California. The Center has existing
and projected needs in a broad range of optics and related
disciplines required in our cutting edge work on research,
development, fabrication, integration, testing, and operation
of complex electro-optical systems for ground, airborne,
and space applications. Openings exist at all levels of
professional experience. Their needs include but are not
limited to: optical design; stray light analysis and control;
e-o systems engineering; photonics; adaptive optics systems;
laser; device/e-o system tests that include alignment and
calibration; skilled optical experimentalists; hardware
engineers that support transistioning a product through
all phases from design through delivery; and optical system
performance analysts with the knowledge of geometrical,
diffraction, statistical, and physical optics and required
mathematical/comoputer tools. Physics of interactions of
light with matter and phenomenology of observables sensed
by optical systems are also of interest.
LAWRENCE
LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABS
Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory is seeking B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. level candidates
(US citizens only) for positions involving work in high
energy and high power lasers, ultrafast optics, laser materials,
laser material processing, high energy density physics,
applied nonlinear optics, optical modeling (raytracing,
beam propagation, electromagnetics), optical signal/image
processing, fiber optics (for high average power amplifiers),
integrated optics, semiconductor lasers (VCSELs), nano and
bio-molecular materials and structures, micro/nano-fabrication
processes, microfluidic devices, chemical/biological sensors,
as well as many other areas of optical, electrical and mechanical
engineering. The lab is also actively seeking summer student
interns in these fields and welcomes applicants.
CORNING,
NEW HAMPSHIRE
Optical Test Engineer
Works with System Engineer to develop test plans, procedures
and setups and performs testing on optical elements and
systems. Must be skilled in the use of Fizeau interferometers
and related optical metrology equipment. Working knowledge
of optical design software (CodeV, OSLO, Zemax) and optical
tolerancing for both performance and manufacturability a
plus. Experience with diamond turning and conventional optical
grind and polish manufacturing processes highly desired.
Experience using solid modeling software (Solidworks) also
desired.
This is an entry level optical engineering position expected
to lead to optical system development opportunities. New
graduates are encouraged to apply especially if they have
some practical optics lab experience.
BS in physics, optics, or related engineering field required.
US Citizenship and ability to secure a clearance required.
LASER DIODE
ARRAY, INC.
Summer Intern
Simple zMax modeling of Plano/Convex lens for fast axis
and slow axis collimation of KW output power laser diode
arrays. Design of lens support structure for above lens
using Solidworks. Equipment procurement, and construction
of optical benches for collimation of laser diode array
operating from 630nm thru 1.5um. Operation of Spiricon beam
profiling and wavelength measurement equipment. Simple Labview
programming involving digital to analog (D/A, A/D) equipment
for control and measurement of assorted drive voltage, optical
output power associated with high power laser diode arrays
Possible zMax modeling of YAG and Erbium diode pumped solid
state (DPSS) laser heads. Design of laser heads based on
above designs in Solidworks. Interface with end clients,
prepare quotes. US citizenship is required.
ROCHESTER
PRECISION OPTICS
Candidates require 1- 2 years optical engineering course
work and a demonstrated interest in geometrical optics and
optical fabrication.
Individual will be responsible
for polishing and grinding spherical optics, set-up and
running CNC tape polishing equipment and interferometer
testing of lens. Exposure to optical coating, assembly and
testing is also possible.
This is a great opportunity to learn hands on optical fabrication
in a manufacturing environment to compliment your technical
understanding of geometrical optics. This work experience
will help you build a practical understanding for your future
career in the optical engineering field by learning how
manufacturing tolerances affect optical design performance.
US citizenship required.
