Optician II: Optical Fabrication (Opt 3.1.3) - JID2007005
The successful candidate will: Perform all optical fabrication processes in the manufacture of precision lenses and other optics elements. Set up and operate optics fabrication equipment such as generators, grinders, polishers and edgers, applying knowledge of layout and tooling techniques and procedures, shop mathematics, and properties of optical and abrasive materials. Read and comprehend lens specifications from blue prints, drawings, work orders and routing instructions. Select premixed compounds or mix grinding, polishing, and holding compounds according to formula. Mount work pieces on holding fixtures, using adhesive, friction, or vacuum. Mount and secure work piece and tooling in machines. Grind and polish lenses to specifications. Measure and test in-process optics, using precision measuring and testing instruments. Perform complex set-ups without assistance. Inspect in-process lenses for conformance to specifications. Perform experimental work and research to develop new production methods and procedures, as requested by management, applying shop mathematics and knowledge of production techniques.

Manufacturing Engineer (2.1.8.2) - JID200802
Would be responsible for the following: analysis, investigation and solution of complex optical manufacturing processes and equipment. This position also participates in the development design, specification and/or selection of equipment and/or processes. Position is required to provide improvement to processes and equipment in the manufacturing area. Position also provides technical support to manufacturing utilizing good analytic problem solving skills, documenting and implementing procedures and other lean principles maximizing manufacturing efficiency. This position shares responsibility and accountability for the production, cost, quality and delivery of specialized optics. Initiates and evaluates vendor proposals for new equipment purchases. Optical Lens Designer
Candidates require a BSOE or MSOE with course work and a demonstrated interest in geometrical optics and lens design.
Duties will include:
Designing lens for both commercial and government applications which can take advantage of RPO's unique aspheric lens manufacturing capabilities, working closely with optical-mechanical designers to develop robust designs, improving existing designs for manufacturability, interfacing with customers; resolving process and material related yield problems; performing failure mode analysis, and implementing corrective action; evaluating models, and transitioning products into production.
Candidates for this position must have experience with ZEMAX , a familiarity with CODE V, TRACEPRO or OSLO is a plus. A working knowledge of optical materials with an emphasis on glass molding and engineering polymers is desirable, as is a basic working knowledge of optics, lasers, optical bonding, and opto/mechanical assembly.

Zygo Corporation is a global supplier of optical metrology instruments and systems to the semiconductor manufacturing industry as well as a range of industrial and consumer electronics markets. The company's products include yield enhancement systems, high precision optics, and optical assemblies for semiconductor capital equipment, aerospace, automotive, and consumer electronics markets.
In this assignment, you will assemble, align, test and calibrate opto-mechanical subassemblies and instruments. You will assemble intricate opto-mechanical assemblies with precision tools and fixturing and integrate the mechanical components and assemblies with state of the art computers to perform the final system qualification and inspection. You will also troubleshoot subassemblies, finished units, and production subsystems and repair as necessary. Additionally, you will perform interferometric testing, analyze results, and summarize in report format. You will work under the direction of a Senior Engineer or Member of the Technical Staff.
Other responsibilities include assisting in the development of assembly and test procedures for new products, identifying problems with documentation and initiating corrections and improvements for new and existing products and methods. You will maintain an opto-mechanical test lab used for product development and contribute to its layout and organization.
Applicants must be capable of interpreting spatial relationships of assemblies using detailed drawings and be must be able to work with procedures, parts lists, schematics, diagrams, and written and verbal instructions. Applicants must also be familiar with mechanical measuring equipment, meters, oscilloscopes and other related test equipment.
Responsibilities also include maintaining laboratory equipment in good working condition, following prescribed work and safety rules and performing other similar and related duties as assigned.
Applicants should currently be enrolled in an optics or physics degree program leading to a Bachelors Degree, and should have completed at least 2 years of study. A working knowledge of mechanical and optical systems, the ability to read and interpret detail and assembly drawings, measuring instruments, and electro-mechanical troubleshooting techniques is required. Job Description:
Provide a range of optical engineering activities for current and future image sensing and writing product programs for the Optical Engineering and Technology team.
Essential Functions:
Design/develop optical systems and components for digital image sensing and writing products, using a variety of optical design and analysis software packages. Conduct and/or direct optical component and assembly qualifications using spectroradiometers, spatial scanning and life test fixtures, MTF lens benches, monochromators, and LabView-based software. Such qualifications include: spectral energy distributions, axial and temporal stability, illuminance and irradiance, axial and through-focus MTF. Establish optical component drawing specifications and negotiate same with vendors. Analyze effects of various component performance shortfalls on system performance. Communicate test results and component status with program management.
Qualifications Desired:

Optical Engineer I
The successful OE I candidate will be involved in many phases of the design process, from concept to prototype integration and test working closely with Sr. Optical Engineers to develop the necessary specialized skills to enable the OE I to progress to increasingly sophisticated design tasks. The OE I will also work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure that all phases of product development are conducive for ease of manufacturability and required system performance. There will also be an emphasis on supporting production personnel through prototype builds. Snake Creek Lasers (Interviewing on campus April 1)
Snake Creek Lasers provides diode pumped solid state lasers and laser modules to a large number of industrial and government organizations for numerous applications. The company also conducts contract solid-state laser research and development in the areas of high power cryogenic solid-state lasers, alexandrite lasers, near and mid-infrared lasers, eye-safe lasers, ultrafast lasers, and in laser and optical materials.

Laser and Electro-Optics Technicians:
Two year Associates Degree in Electro-Optics or Lasers, to build, demonstrate, and generate data from various solid-state laser development programs including mid-infrared lasers, visible green and blue lasers, near-infrared lasers, cryogenic lasers, tunable lasers, and ultrafast lasers. These are "hands on" jobs, working with miniature laser systems. Laboratory experience working with small parts and/or under microscopes is a plus. Training will be provided
Laser Engineers:
Bachelors or Masters Degree in physics, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering with at least two years experience relevant to building and operating solid-state lasers and optical systems.
