M. Parker Givens

Short Biography
M. Parker Givens received the Ph.D. degree from Cornell University in 1942 and joined the faculty of The Institute in 1947. He served as acting director from 1975-1977 and along with Professor Teegarden he currently supervises the Senior Lab, OPT 256.

Professor Givens made important contributions to the development of optical data processing and synthetic holography. His gift for teaching and for insightful problem-solving continues to inspire students.

Alumnus James G. Wyant and his wife Louise generously endowed a Chair in Professor Givens' honor. The first recipient of the Chair is Prof. Robert Boyd.
