Short biography
Professor Houde-Walter was born in New York City. She received the
B.A. degree in Liberal Arts from Sarah Lawrence College (1976),
and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Optics from the University of
Rochester (1983, 1987). Professor Houde-Walter joined the faculty
of The Institute of Optics of the University of Rochester in 1987
and, since 1998, has held the position of Professor of Optics.
Research
Research interests include novel optical materials, optical and
x-ray spectroscopy, and optoelectronic design.
Professor Houde-Walter is a Fellow of both the Optical Society of America and the American Ceramic Society. She has authored one U.S. patent and approximately 100 journal papers and invited talks. In 1989 she co-founded LaserMax, Inc. She is currently on leave until July 2002.
