Short Biography
Mrs. Kruschwitz is a Sr. Optical Coating Engineer and President of her coating design firm, JK Consulting. She received her Bachelors and Masters Degree in Optics from the University of Rochester in 1989 and 1995 respectively. She has been working in the field of optical interference coatings since 1988. She has supported government contract work while at Litton/Itek Optical systems from 1989-1991 where she won an Itek Excellence award for a trade secret using stealth coatings. She has worked in the area of optical coatings for laser fusion at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics at the University of Rochester from 1992 - 1994 and later worked at Bausch and Lomb in Rochester, NY from 1994 - 1998 where she supported product development in the areas of Stage & Studio and Medical Lighting. Within her first year at B&L, Mrs. Kruschwitz was able to work on 50 coating development projects for lighting applications independently, bringing 10 to market as new product lines totaling $7M in sales. After the birth of her first child, she left B&L to start consulting for her own firm, JK Consulting, in 1998. Her firm has supported numerous lighting and display projects for companies such as Kodak, Steris, Electronic Theatre Controls, and Wybron. She is also a distributor and technical support for OptiLayer coating design software for North America, New Zealand, and Australia. JK Consulting is the only woman-owned optical interference design firm in the United States. Mrs. Kruschwitz has been a very active volunteer for the Optical Society of America (OSA), both for the New England Local Section as Secretary and Rochester Local Section as the current Treasurer. She has served on the Board of Directors and the Finance Committee for the National OSA from 2004 - 2005 as Chair of the Membership/Education/Services Council, and is currently a contributing editor for Optics and Photonics News magazine in the area of Technology Transfer for OPN's new Optics Innovations column. She has Co-Chaired two SPIE coating conferences and is a Technical Committee member for the OSA's Optical Interference Coating Topical Meeting. Mrs. Kruschwitz holds one patent, has authored three peer-reviewed journal articles, seven peer-reviewed presentations, over seven magazine articles, and one invited talk.
