THE NANO-OPTICS MOUNTAIN BIKE HALL OF FAME

MTB trips 2008

October 2008: Adirondacks, Inlet, NY. This year the fall season is treating us very well. Alex, Gustavo, and Lukas are heading out for a traditional ADK ride.

Our modest little boathouse at camp O-kwa-riga.

Gustavo and Lukas posing for the heroic "before" picture. Alex thinks he'd rather go fishing.

Fall definitely arrived in the Adirondacks.

Gustavo reaching the top of Black Bear Mountain.

Everybody happy and cheerful on top of Black Bear Mountain.

Lukas on the edge.

Alex on the uphill.

Gustavo on the downhill.

We deserve a beer!

August 2008 - August 2009: El Garraf, Barcelona, Spain. One year of MTBing in Catalunya. There were many great rides and sights. Check out this link.

August 2008: Ganandogan Trail, Victor, NY. A lovely day in August. My last ride with Barbara before taking off to Spain.

Grassland Trail towards Long House.

Barbara enjoying a well deserved rest on Great Brook.

August 2008: Letchworth State Park, Mt. Morris, NY. Another classic - the Finger Lakes Trail from Mt. Moris Dam along Letchworth canyon towards the falls. 24 miles of solitude with lots of ups and downs.

Not that you haven't seen a Ford Taurus before .. but this is its last appearance. It got retired after this ride. A very loyal MTB companion for more than 10 years.

The views speak for themselves ..

...

This mean sign was mistaken for a trail marker (I followed trail #8). Cost me some extra miles down and up the canyon.

A small incident along the last few miles ..

Energy's gone.

July 2008: Camp Cutler, Bristol, NY. Time again for one of the great classic rides! This time with an international race team: Palash, Gustavo, Loni, and Lukas.

The Brazilians bike and smile all the way to the top.

The Indians only smile ..

while the Swiss swear and scream!

A hazy day, but great views from the jump-off!

Yes, everybody is happy after the great downhill!
Palash Bharadwaj, Gustavo Cancado, and Loni Novotny.

June 2008: Dryer Road, Victor, NY. Yes, yes .. this Dryer Road Park is permanently reoccuring on this site. But hey - it's one of the finest rides close by. This time with Loni and Handy.

Well, well, Handy cheating again ...
Surprised?

Oh .. it's because he sighted a lovely little fawn.

Meanwhile even Loni is pushing her bike ..

.. obviously reaching her limits.

June 2008: Stid Hill, Bristol, NY. Unbelievable - this is Handy Gelbard's first appearance on this site. Should you not know: It's him, Mr. MTB! Reincarnation of ancient high-tech. Usually he's too fast to be caught on camera. But not on this very lovely day in June '08 ..

Arriving at the foot of Stid Hill.
One of NANOCAR's longest trips.

Stid Hill smiling.

Handy caught cheating! He never does this. But today ..

.. he's even pushing his bike downhill!!!

May 2008: Dryer Road Park, Victor, NY. After yerars, Bennett Goldberg made again an appearance in Rochester.

Bennett enjoying the downhill.
Check out his knees ..

Trying to impres on CMP (check my pants) trail.

Barely made it ..

Well deserved rest on top of fort hill.

Not so fresh anymore. Ready to go home.

April 2008: Moab, Utah. After an enjoyable visit to Salt Lake City and its University there was no way around Moab. Joe Marhatta flew in the following day and we set out to explore the most epics of the epics, starting with Sliprock, continuing with Porcupine, and finishing with Sovereign.

After 4hrs of driving, bike renting, and lots of granola bars we're finally ready for Slickrock.

Very slick this slickrock.

Joe reaching a spot of shade.

After every uphill comes the downhill.

Dashing down the slicky ..

U.S. made Tepui, called 'shrimp rock'.

The jump off to Colorado River.

Mile 10. Joe pretending to have much energy left ..

Mile 11. Not much energy left in this face!

A new day - all pain is cured and gone. Ready for Porcupine.

Reaching the snow.

See John Wayne down there ?

Lukas in a superposition state ..

Joe - very close to meeting his maker!

These rental bikes take some beating! Handy is sure this was just a hallucination and that it really was like this.

No beer advised here.

Hear Joe's boots shaking ?

Yes, there are few minutes left before dark .. We're ready for Sovereign Trail.

The orange blends in well.

In terms of technical skills - Sovereign is it !

Final downhill. Then return bikes, then eat food, then drive 4hrs., then sleep 3 hrs., then return car, then board the plane.

January 2008: Fort Hill and Ganandogan, Victor, NY. This was a very optimistic ride in Rochester's backlands. Only one day later we got covered in snow and the next ride had to wait till end of March.

This is Gabriel, Brazilian churascero and samba dancer. Usually he rides the bike, but there was far too much feijoada this winter ..

A loughly winter landscape.

Gabriel reaching the top, swearing like a trooper ..

Indian longhouse on Boughton Hill, - once the Seneca Nation's principal village. Wiped out by the French army. Today it is Ganondagan State Historic Site.
